In a statement posted on social media, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee said, “This is the largest government cover-up in modern history. We are demanding answers.”

Democrats on Wednesday accused US President Donald Trump’s administration of carrying out what they called the “largest government cover-up in modern history," after reports claimed key documents linked to allegations that Trump sexually abused a minor were withheld.

The Justice Department recently released millions of pages related to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein under a transparency law passed last year. However, public broadcaster NPR reported gaps in the files connected to a woman’s 2019 complaint accusing Trump of assault.

Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and has said the release of the so-called “Epstein Files" clears him.

According to NPR, document indexes and serial numbers show that FBI agents conducted four interviews with the accuser and prepared summaries and notes. But only one summary, largely focused on her allegations against Epstein, appears in the public database.

The other three summaries and related notes, running over 50 pages, are missing from the Justice Department’s website, NPR found. The New York Times and cable network MS NOW reported similar discrepancies.

In a statement posted on social media, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee said, “This is the largest government cover-up in modern history. We are demanding answers."

The woman approached authorities in July 2019, shortly after Epstein was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges. References in the released documents say she alleged that Epstein introduced her to Trump and that Trump assaulted her in the mid-1980s, when she was between 13 and 15 years old.

A 2025 FBI document available in the database mentions her claim but does not assess its credibility. The detailed memos from follow-up interviews conducted in August and October 2019, as indicated in the indexes, are not included.

Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, said he reviewed unredacted evidence logs at the Justice Department and found similar gaps.

“Oversight Democrats can confirm that the DOJ appears to have illegally withheld FBI interviews with this survivor," Garcia said, adding that Democrats would launch a parallel investigation and demand the missing documents be handed over to Congress.

The Justice Department has said that any documents not posted fall under categories permitted by law, such as duplicates, privileged material, or records linked to an ongoing investigation.

When asked for comment, the department referred to a social media statement denying that any files were deleted. It said documents temporarily removed for victim-related redactions or to protect personal information would be restored.

Democrats, however, argue that the missing interview records do not fit the exemptions cited by the department.
