Iran has received a ceasefire proposal routed through Pakistan and is currently reviewing it, but does not see Islamabad as a mediator, a top source linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told News18.
“Pakistan is not mediating, only facilitating good offices," the source said, pushing back against reports suggesting Islamabad is leading the negotiations.
According to the source, Tehran can only place trust in the process if China and Russia provide assurances and concrete guarantees.
“Iran cannot trust the United States alone. Tehran has been betrayed multiple times," the source said.
The source added that Iran is open to a ceasefire, but only if its conditions are met. “Iran is ready for a ceasefire, but first there must be guarantees and acceptance of Iran’s five conditions."
Iran has received Pakistan’s proposal covering both a ceasefire framework and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the source confirmed while speaking to News18.
“Iran and the IRGC are reviewing all aspects of the Pakistani proposal," the source said.
“Iran will respond to Pakistan’s proposal soon, after consulting Russia and China," they added.
Iranian officials across the military, IRGC and diplomatic channels are in continuous contact with multiple countries, including Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, Russia, China and India, the source added.
The source acknowledged that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has had wider consequences. “We know that due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, our friends are suffering too. But the war was started by the United States and Israel," the source said.
“Iran wants long-lasting peace and a diplomatic solution in the region," the source added.
The developments come amid continued escalation in the region. The US and Israel have struck targets across Iran, including major petrochemical facilities, as the deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz approaches.
Trump has warned that Iran could face attacks on civilian infrastructure if the waterway is not reopened.
At the same time, Iran has continued missile and drone attacks across the region.
Trump said intermediaries between Washington and Tehran “are negotiating now" to improve the ceasefire proposal, which US media reports say is being facilitated by Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey.
“It’s not good enough, but it’s a very significant step," Trump said at the White House.
He added that the US could still move ahead with strikes on civilian targets if a deal is not reached.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA, however, said Tehran has rejected the ceasefire proposal and is insisting on a definitive end to the conflict, in a message conveyed to the United States via Pakistan.
