Piyush Goyal Meets US Senator Daines And Envoy Gor, Holds Talks On Bilateral Relationship

Piyush Goyal met US Senator Daines and Ambassador Sergio Gor to discuss India-US bilateral ties and trade talks amid ongoing negotiations for a trade agreement.

Union Commerce and Industry Ministry Piyush Goyal on Monday held talks with US Senator Steve Daines and Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on bilateral relations.

In a post on X, Goyal said: “Delighted to again meet my good friends US Senator Steve Daines and the US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. Had a productive exchange of views on our bilateral relationship."

He also shared photos of the meeting along with the post.

According to PTI, India and the US are engaged in negotiating a bilateral trade agreement amid a steep 50% import duty imposed by the Donald Trump administration on Indian goods since August.

On Sunday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met US Senator Steve Daines, who is currently on a visit to India, to discuss the bilateral relationship and its strategic significance.

On January 12, Gor, during his arrival speech, asserted that both sides are actively engaged to firm up a trade deal.

According to PTI, Republican Senators Steve Daines of Montana and Kevin Cramer of North Dakota have urged President Trump to push for favourable provisions for pulse crops in any future trade deal with India, saying American producers face a “significant competitive disadvantage" due to what they described as “unfair" tariffs imposed by New Delhi.
