Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping condemned Israel’s recent strikes on Iran during a phone call, calling for immediate de-escalation and a return to diplomacy, the Kremlin said.
According to Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov, both leaders agreed that Israel’s actions violated the United Nations Charter and international law. “There was strong condemnation of Israeli actions which violated the UN Charter and other norms of international law," Yuri Ushakov said.
Putin, Xi Back Diplomacy Amid Israel-Iran Conflict
Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping also shared the view that concerns about Iran’s nuclear programme- widely cited by Israel and its Western allies- could not be resolved through military means. Instead, they stressed the need for diplomatic engagement to avoid further escalation in the region, as per the Kremlin.
