Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Thursday claimed that it had fired ballistic missiles at a US command centre in Jordan, according to Iranian state media reports.

Describing the action as a “punitive operation against the aggressor," the IRGC claimed the strike targeted the Al-Azraq Air Base and its control centre. The statement was carried by the Tasnim news agency.

The IRGC said it used 12 ballistic missiles in the attack and claimed that the strike destroyed the targeted facilities along with a “large number of fighter aircraft."

According to the report, the operation was carried out in response to ongoing tensions, though no further operational details were immediately provided by Iranian authorities.

There has been no independent confirmation of the extent of the damage or the specific impact of the alleged strike. Authorities in the United States and Jordan have not yet issued an official response regarding the claims.

Kuwait Airspace Closed

Kuwait has closed its airspace and diverted flights to alternative airports as Iranian attacks continue to rattle the region, officials announced on Thursday.

Authorities said flights bound for Kuwait had been forced to circle outside the country’s airspace for some time before the closure was formally declared. The move came after Kuwait’s military confirmed that its air defences were actively firing on Thursday morning, following fresh threats from Iran to retaliate for overnight US airstrikes.

In recent days, Kuwait International Airport suffered a direct hit from an Iranian strike, killing one person and wounding dozens more. The incident has heightened security concerns and prompted tighter airspace controls.

While Kuwaiti officials did not elaborate on the exact nature of the current attacks or the duration of the airspace closure, they confirmed that flights were being rerouted to other airports in the region.

Meanwhile, Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters, sounded its missile alert sirens on Thursday, underscoring growing regional tensions amid the latest escalation between Iran and the United States.
