A grim video has appeared on social media showing a Russian military commander allegedly tying two soldiers, accused of deserting and disobeying orders, upside down to trees in a snowy forest while shoving snow into their mouths.
In the 28-second clip, a voice could be heard repeatedly accusing the soldiers of trying to leave their posts without permission and refusing orders. The two soldiers could be seen only in their underwear, exposed to the freezing cold.
“These idiots tried to leave their positions without permission, refusing to follow orders," TVP World quoted the apparent commander shouting in the video.

Both soldiers could be heard apologising, with one saying, “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again," while a superior officer shoved snow into his mouth, saying, “Eat it. Absolute fools".
The commander also shouted that they must “work properly, without excuses".

In October 2025, Russian independent media outlet Verstka had reported testimonies from former servicemen, that beatings, humiliation and other forms of torture are used against soldiers who refuse to take part in assaults or attempt to disobey orders.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had asserted that he would not pull back the troops unless Ukraine complied with his demands of ceding part of its territory. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected Putin’s demand.
“We have no right to give anything away — not under our laws, not under international law, not under moral law," Zelensky told reporters in December. “Russia is, of course, insisting that we give up territory. We, of course, do not want to give up anything — that is precisely what we are fighting for, as you are well aware."
Meanwhile, Russia launched strikes overnight in Kharkiv and Odesa during the weekend. At least 44 people, including children and a pregnant woman, were injured in the dual attacks.
