Former US President Bill Clinton said he testified before the House Oversight Committee as part of an effort to uphold constitutional accountability and support survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes, while firmly denying any knowledge of wrongdoing during his past interactions with the disgraced financier.
In a statement released after his testimony, Clinton said his decision to appear before lawmakers was guided by democratic principles and a desire to help establish the facts.
“I just finished testifying in front of the House Oversight Committee," Clinton said.
“I did it for two reasons. First, I love my country, including our Constitution, and America was built on the idea that no person is above the law, even presidents, especially presidents, and that we should all live under the same set of rules."
