Shooting at Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge: Six reportedly injured

An active shooter incident was reported on Thursday (April 23), at the Mall of Louisiana, triggering a large-scale emergency response from local and state authorities.

According to officials, law enforcement agencies swiftly arrived at the scene following reports of gunfire, believed to have originated near the mall’s food court. The shopping center, one of the largest retail destinations in Baton Rouge, was immediately placed on full lockdown, with all entrances and exits secured as officers worked to contain the situation.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry confirmed he was actively coordinating with law enforcement. In a public statement, he urged residents to avoid the area while emergency personnel responded. He also expressed concern for those affected and praised the rapid response of first responders.

“I am aware of the active shooter scene at the Mall of Louisiana. I am in coordination with law enforcement and we will update as we know more. Please avoid the area. Sharon and I are praying for those affected and are grateful for a quick response by our law enforcement officials.”

Preliminary reports from local sources indicate that at least six individuals were injured and transported to nearby medical facilities. Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center was reportedly preparing to handle a potential mass casualty situation. However, the conditions of the injured have not yet been disclosed.

Emergency medical teams established a triage area near the mall’s JCPenney location to treat victims on-site. Authorities are currently searching for up to two suspects believed to be involved in the shooting.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill stated that she had been in contact with District Attorney Hillar Moore and confirmed that officials are closely monitoring the situation involving the discharge of weapons inside the mall.

Roads surrounding the mall were temporarily affected as law enforcement secured the perimeter and facilitated emergency operations. Residents have been advised to stay clear of the vicinity and rely on official channels for verified updates.
