Earlier on Monday, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the projectile struck a “tactical operation center that was fortified," but acknowledged that “one" incoming weapon managed to penetrate air defences. The attack was previously described as a suspected drone strike.

According to the source, the strike hit shortly after 9 am local time and directly impacted the centre of the structure, which was described as a triple-wide trailer housing office space. The assault reportedly came without warning, with no sirens sounded to allow troops to seek shelter.
The source said the blast caused extensive structural damage, with walls blown outward and interior sections blackened by fire. Hours after the strike, parts of the building were still smoldering. Satellite imagery taken Sunday morning showed a structure at the port engulfed in flames, with thick dark smoke rising into the sky.
