Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi welcomed the Pakistani delegation, led by Field Marshal Asim Munir, in Tehran on Wednesday as diplomatic discussions intensified for the second round of talks between Iran and the US. Expressing gratitude for Pakistan’s gracious hosting of the dialogue between Tehran and Washington to end the war in the West Asia, Araghchi said he was delighted to welcome Munir to Iran.

“Delighted to welcome Field Marshal Munir to Iran. Expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s gracious hosting of the dialogue, emphasising that it reflects our deep and great bilateral relationship," Araghchi said in a post on X, sharing the video of the Pakistan delegation landing in Tehran.

“Our commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region remains strong—and shared," he added.

The visit came amid the ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilise tensions in West Asia. Pakistan has, in recent weeks, been trying to position itself as a potential mediator between Tehran and Washington.

Islamabad also hosted a preliminary round of engagement between the delegations of the Iran and the US amid concerns over a wider regional escalation.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he is not considering extending the fragile ceasefire with Iran, which is set to expire on April 21. In an interview with ABC News, Trump suggested an extension may not be necessary, signalling possible progress in the second round of negotiations with Iran, expected to take place in the coming days.
