A student was reportedly shot on high school premises in Rockville, Maryland, on Monday, and another student was taken into custody, said the police, as reported by Associated Press.

One student was found with gunshot injuries in a hallway and was rushed to a hospital in stable condition, the Rockville City Police Department stated in a post on Facebook.

The police added that the suspect — also a student — was identified and arrested near the school shortly after the incident.

“At this time, there is no further threat to public safety," the department said.

The police were dispatched at 2:15 P.M. Monday after receiving reports of shots fired at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, a suburb of Washington D.C., the department confirmed.

School Under Lockdown

According to the AP report, Heather Rodriguez, whose daughter studies in the ninth grade at the school, said her daughter stood outside the premises for several hours.

She said her daughter had texted her that the school was put under lockdown and there were police everywhere.

“Everyone’s acting like we are going to die," she said her daughter texted. “If anything happens, I love you", as quoted by the outlet.
