The Supreme Court of India on 16 January dismissed a petition filed by Yashwant Varma, an Allahabad High Court judge, challenging the constitutionality of a parliamentary committee constituted to inquire into corruption allegations against him, according to news agency ANI.

Justice Varma had questioned the validity of the committee established by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, arguing that the process was flawed because a motion seeking his removal had earlier been rejected by the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

A bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice SC Sharma delivered the ruling, having reserved its verdict on the matter on January 8, 2026.

The decision clears the way for the parliamentary committee to proceed with its inquiry into the allegations against Justice Varma, bringing an end to his legal challenge against the panel’s formation.
