The EAGLE (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) force in Telangana capital Hyderabad said on Friday that it conducted a raid on a local pub, apprehending seven people for the suspected consumption of narcotics.

Acting on verified intelligence during the night of 2 and 3 April, the EAGLE force targeted a venue in the Kondapur area in collaboration with the Gachibowli Police Station. Seven people were detained during the raid for allegedly using controlled substances, according to an official statement.

Based on reports that the pub was hosting a high-profile event featuring international DJ ‘Black Coffee’, EAGLE organized six specialized teams to execute a surprise inspection.

The agency stated that it launched the operation to suppress widespread drug misuse taking place within pubs, hotels, and various public venues.

Before the intervention, intelligence was compiled on the guests, leading to the shortlisting of 64 individuals suspected of substance use.

Without interrupting the festivities, the squads performed a sudden check and selected five specific persons for screening.

Utilising urine-based diagnostic kits, four subjects tested positive for marijuana (ganja) and benzodiazepines.

Subsequent testing identified three additional individuals positive for marijuana and methamphetamine.

Consequently, seven people were confirmed to have consumed narcotics and were transferred to police custody, the statement noted.

The detainees voluntarily "confessed" to the drug use. Data regarding their supply networks was gathered, and their families or guardians will be notified to facilitate enrollment in rehabilitation programs, aiming to intervene before severe addiction develops, officials said.

Legal proceedings have been initiated under the applicable sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, and a deeper investigation is currently underway.

Drug party busted in Moinabad

Last month, a drug party was busted at a farmhouse in Moinabad, near Hyderabad, in which a TDP MP and a former BRS MLA are allegedly involved.

TDP MP from Andhra Pradesh Putta Mahesh Kumar, former BRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy and four others had tested positive for alleged drug consumption, following the raid at the farmhouse on 14 March night.

On reliable information that several individuals had gathered at the farmhouse, owned by Rohith Reddy, and were celebrating a party with possession of narcotic and psychotropic substances along with a large quantity of liquor, the EAGLE Force, in coordination with local police teams raided it.

Upon noticing the arrival of the police team, a Delhi-based businessman had allegedly opened fire towards the police team. During the operation, the police team surrounded the farmhouse premises and detained 11 individuals, including a woman.

A case was registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, Arms Act, Telangana State Excise Act and BNS.
