For a statement that purported to signal the possible end of a major international crisis, Trump's post left some of the most important questions unanswered.

US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump offered what appeared to be a dramatic breakthrough in efforts to end the conflict with Iran, announcing on social media that he had cancelled planned air strikes and that an agreement was close to being finalized. Yet for a statement that purported to signal the possible end of a major international crisis, Trump’s post left some of the most important questions unanswered.
In a lengthy Truth Social message, the US President said discussions with Iran had reached the highest levels of the country’s leadership and that “final points" had been approved “both in concept and great detail" by all parties involved. He also claimed a signing ceremony would be announced “shortly" and said planned US strikes against Iran had been called off.
But beyond those broad declarations, Trump provided virtually no details about what had supposedly been agreed, who exactly had approved it or whether Iran itself was on board.
While Trump listed a range of countries that he said had approved the agreement- including Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt- Iran was notably absent from the list. The omission immediately raises questions about whether Tehran has actually accepted the terms Trump appears to be describing.
Iranian officials have yet to publicly confirm Trump’s account and there has been no indication from Tehran that a breakthrough has been reached on the central issue that has stalled negotiations for months: Iran’s nuclear programme.
What Exactly Has Been Agreed?
Trump’s post repeatedly referred to “final points" being approved but offered no explanation of what those points are. There was no mention of uranium enrichment limits, sanctions relief, inspections, regional security guarantees or any of the issues that have dominated talks between Washington and Tehran.
Without those details, it is impossible to determine whether Trump was announcing a substantive diplomatic agreement or simply describing progress in ongoing negotiations. sThe lack of specifics is particularly striking given that previous rounds of talks have repeatedly broken down over precisely these issues.
Why Announce A Signing Ceremony Before A Deal Is Confirmed?
Another source of confusion is Trump’s claim that the time and place of a signing ceremony would be announced shortly. The US President has made similar promises before, often suggesting that a major diplomatic breakthrough is imminent only for negotiations to drag on for weeks or months afterward.
Why Cancel Strikes While Keeping Pressure On Iran?
Trump’s message also contained another apparent contradiction. While announcing that planned strikes and bombings had been cancelled, he simultaneously said that the US naval blockade targeting Iranian ports would remain “in full force and effect" until the transaction is finalized. The decision suggests Washington is attempting to balance diplomatic outreach with continued economic and military pressure. However, the strategy mirrors Trump’s broader approach to Iran over recent months: alternating between threats of escalation and declarations that a deal is just around the corner.
