After White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that she welcomed a baby girl recently, Iran used the occasion to criticise her for defending the United States after the deadly Minab school strike earlier this year.

Leavitt, 28, wrote in a post on X on Thursday that she welcomed her second child, a baby girl named Viviana, on May 1. Sharing a picture holding the newborn, she wrote on X, “On May 1st, Viviana aka “Vivi" joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love."

Congratulations to you. Children are innocent and lovable. Those 168 children that your boss killed in the school in Minab, and you justified, were also children. When you kiss your baby, think of the mothers of those children. https://t.co/uhypZFhRRf— IRI Embassy in Armenia (@iraninyerevan) May 9, 2026

“She is perfect and healthy, and her big brother is joyfully adjusting to life with his new baby sister. We are enjoying every moment in our blissful newborn bubble," she added.

Responding to the post, the Iranian Embassy in Armenia extended congratulations but also referred to the February 28 strike on a school in Minab that reportedly killed over 150 people, including dozens of children.

“Congratulations to you. Children are innocent and lovable. Those 168 children that your boss killed in the school in Minab, and you justified, were also children. When you kiss your baby, think of the mothers of those children," the embassy wrote on X.

Over 100 Children Killed In Minab School Strike

According to Iranian state media, 73 boys and 47 girls were among those killed in the strike. Teachers, parents and staff members near the school were also killed in the attack. The strike took place on the same day the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran, triggering retaliatory action from Tehran.

Leavitt Defends US Operation

Leavitt had earlier defended Washington, saying the US does not target civilians. “While the Department of War is currently investigating this matter, the Iranian regime targets civilians and children, not the United States of America," she had said in March.

A report by New York Times later suggested that a US Tomahawk missile may have mistakenly struck the school during the operation.
