As authorities continue search and rescue operations following flash floods in central Texas, a timelapse video has emerged, showing how quickly the floodwaters swallowed a local causeway.
The dramatic video shows the shocking speed at which floodwaters entered the area.
The 30-minute-long footage, filmed by an eyewitness, revealed floodwaters submerging the elevated road within just 10 minutes.
Heavy rain hit the Hill Country area and caused sudden, dangerous floods. At least 80 people died over the weekend.
A few people visible on the causeway at the start of the video were seen retreating as the water level rose dramatically.
The flash floods, described as among the worst in the US in decades, have claimed at least 104 lives, with the toll expected to rise further.
The video shows the Guadalupe river near Kingsland, about 100 miles northeast of Kerr County, the area hit hardest.
Intensifying their efforts on Monday, the rescuers used boats and heavy equipment to dig through debris and search for those missing.
As per authorities, at least 27 campers and staff from Camp Mystic, a historic all-girls Christian summer camp in Kerr County, were swept away by the flash floods early on Friday morning. Till now, officials have recovered 84 bodies, including that of 28 children.
Before dawn on July 5, the Guadalupe River, swollen from incessant rain, ripped through cabins, tents, and trailers—dragging people from their beds and carrying them miles downstream.
Some of the survivors were found clinging to trees. As floodwaters receded, several items such as coolers, sports equipment like volleyballs and canoes, and photographs were seen lying near banks.
US President Donald Trump, who signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, is expected to visit Texas on Friday. Earlier on Sunday, he stated the flooding caught everyone by surprise. “This was a thing that happened in seconds. Nobody expected it," he added.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended emergency services and stated that both federal and local agencies has issued sufficient weather warnings ahead of the floods.
