The Trump administration has extended its sanctions waiver on Russian seaborne oil by 30 days after it briefly lapsed over the weekend. The decision comes amid continued requests from several countries for more time to adjust their crude oil procurement amid tight global energy markets due to the ongoing war war in Iran.

A source told Reuters that the US Treasury moved to extend the waiver after consultations, effectively restoring the temporary relief measure that had expired on Saturday.

The waiver had previously allowed countries, including India, to continue purchasing Russian seaborne oil despite broader Western sanctions linked to the war in Ukraine.
