US President Donald Trump branded the United Kingdom’s immigration policies “insane" and declared that Britain is “being invaded" by illegal immigrants, in a blunt assessment delivered during an interview with Sky News. Trump did not hold back when asked for his views on UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s handling of the issue.

He said, “A lot of people ask me what I think about them, and I think they’re insane. Your country is being invaded by illegal immigrants from all over the world, including those from prisons, drug dealers, people from mental institutions."

When pushed back on the claim, Trump doubled down and asserted, “I’ve been very accurate here,"- pointing to his own administration’s border crackdown as a model.

He said, “We closed our border, we have nobody coming in, and we’re getting rid of the bad ones that were sent in."

Trump Says He Loves UK

Trump framed his criticism as coming from a place of affection for Britain, insisting he wants to see the country thrive. He said, “I love that country. I love your country and I would love to see it succeed. But if you have bad immigration policies and bad energy policies, you have the worst of both. You can’t succeed- not possible."

While acknowledging that immigration policy is ultimately a matter for the British government, Trump showed little restraint in offering his verdict. Keir Starmer, he said, had made a “tragic mistake" on the issue- a characterisation that is likely to add further tension to what Trump himself described as a “sad" special relationship between the two nations.

The US President also said that he is looking forward to welcoming King Charles and Queen Camilla to the White House and insisted that his strained relationship with Keir Starmer would not affect the visit.
