Trump Claims Walmart Lowered Its Thanksgiving Meal Price — And Is Instantly Owned

President Donald Trump got roasted after using bunk facts to boast about falling food prices.

Walmart just announced that Prices for a Thanksgiving Dinner is now down 25% since under Sleepy/Crooked Joe Biden, in 2024,” the president wrote on Wednesday night in a post on Truth Social.

“AFFORDABILITY is a Republican Stronghold,” he went on. “Hopefully, Republicans will use this irrefutable fact.”

Trump’s claim was nowhere near as ironclad as he made it out to be.

Once screenshots of Trump’s post made it to X, formerly Twitter, it was slapped with a community note explaining how Walmart’s 2025 meal package has fewer items and more generic products than last year’s offering.

People piled on in the replies, where one X user said, “Context matters.”

Someone else posted side-by-side comparisons of both grocery lists, highlighting how many name-brand items had been replaced with those from Walmart’s Great Value brand this year.

Another reminded everyone that many Americans may go without food because of the government shutdown and the White House’s stance on impacted food benefits, writing, “Thanks to Trump, millions of Americans can’t afford a Thanksgiving dinner at any price.”

Even if Trump’s claim about Walmart’s thriftier Thanksgiving bundle was true, the facts about overall food prices show things aren’t getting any cheaper.

Consumer Price Index figures released in late October indicated that average grocery prices had risen 3% since the same time last year, with meats, poultry, fish and eggs seeing an even more dramatic 5.2% jump.

Guess it’s refutable. Who knew? (At least half the country.)
