He further described the talks with Jinping as extremely positive and said, “…We had extremely positive and productive conversations and meetings today with the Chinese delegation earlier. This evening is another cherished opportunity to discuss among friends, some of the things that we discussed today, all good for the United States and for China. It was a great honour to be with you."
Meanwhile, Jinping described the US-China relationship as the world’s most consequential and warned that both sides must “never mess it up."
Speaking at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People after high-level talks with Trump, Jinping struck a conciliatory but cautionary tone, portraying cooperation between Washington and Beijing as essential for global stability.
“Both China and the United States stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. Our two countries should be partners rather than rivals," Xi Jinping said during his opening toast.
When Did Last Jinping Visit The US?
The Chinese President last visited the US in November 2023 for the 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco.
During the visit, Xi held high-level talks with then US President Joe Biden aimed at stabilising relations between the world’s two largest economies after months of tensions over trade, technology, Taiwan and military activity in the South China Sea.
The meeting resulted in agreements to resume military-to-military communication and cooperate on curbing fentanyl production, while both sides also discussed artificial intelligence and global security issues.
