US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly held a “prolonged and dramatic" phone conversation amid growing uncertainty over the next phase of the Iran conflict, according to Israeli media reports.
The discussion, first reported by Israel’s Channel 12, was described as highly significant and came as both leaders weigh options related to Iran following weeks of tensions and stalled negotiations. The report claimed the leaders may be nearing an important decision, although no details were provided on the exact subject under discussion.
The call marks the second reported conversation between Trump and Netanyahu in three days. Israeli media earlier said the two leaders also spoke on Sunday, with discussions reportedly touching on Trump’s recent trip to China and his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“On the verge of a decision: Trump and Netanyahu held a phone call tonight that was defined as ‘prolonged and dramatic’," Channel 12 said, according to reports.
The reported exchange comes against the backdrop of renewed uncertainty over US policy toward Iran. Trump recently said he had paused a planned military strike on Iran after requests from Gulf leaders, while warning that military action remained possible if negotiations failed. He has also indicated fresh strikes could occur within days if Tehran does not agree to terms preventing nuclear weapons development.
According to reports, differences may also be emerging between Washington and Tel Aviv over how aggressively to pursue military options against Iran, with Netanyahu reportedly favouring a tougher approach while Trump has continued to leave room for diplomacy.
Neither the White House nor Netanyahu’s office has issued an official statement detailing the contents of the latest call.
The developments come as concerns grow that any escalation involving Iran could further destabilise the region and affect global energy markets, particularly around the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.
