US President Donald Trump’s approval rating fell to near the lowest point of his political career, as growing voter pessimism over high energy prices, rising living costs and the ongoing Iran conflict continues to weigh on public sentiment. A Reuters/Ipsos survey found that just 35% of respondents approve of Trump’s performance in the White House- a level close to his all-time lows of 34% in April and 33% during his first term in December 2017.

The Republican leader is facing mounting public frustration over the prolonged Iran war, which has entered its 100th day and its spillover effects on global energy markets as well as domestic fuel prices.

Why Are Americans Frustrated With Trump?

The poll points to a combination of economic pressure and foreign policy concerns driving dissatisfaction, with energy prices and inflation dominating voter concerns. Around 59% of respondents said they expect gasoline prices to worsen next year, even as prices have slightly eased in recent weeks amid hopes of de-escalation in the Middle East. Only 17% of respondents believed prices would improve, while the rest said they were uncertain about the direction of costs.

How Bad Is Trump’s Approval On Cost Of Living?

The survey showed particularly weak ratings on household economic issues, with just 22% approving of Trump’s handling of the cost of living in the United States. A significant 70% of respondents disapproved of his performance on this issue, making it one of the most damaging areas for the president politically.

What Role Is Iran War Playing?

Trump, in coordination with Israel, launched military strikes on Iran on February 28, triggering a wider regional escalation and retaliatory attacks on US and Israeli-linked targets in West Asia. The conflict has contributed to instability in global energy markets, with concerns focused on the Strait of Hormuz- a critical oil transit route through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s crude supply flows. The route has remained disrupted, further pushing volatility in fuel prices.

Do Americans Support Military Action?

Public opinion on US military action in Iran remains divided and cautious. The poll found that 36% of Americans approve of the strikes on Iran, while only 25% believe the benefits outweigh the costs. A larger share of respondents expressed concern about the economic and geopolitical consequences of continued escalation.
