The United States may be close to reaching an agreement with Iran on the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, according to US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, who also called President Donald Trump a “creative negotiator."

Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Wright said, “There are negotiations with the Iranians going on; despite what you hear in the chatter in public, I think those are actually going well." He added that the US “is not too far away from a deal" with Iran.

He also spoke about President Donald Trump’s approach to negotiations, describing him as “a creative negotiator" who uses “pressure in different ways and uses uncertainty in different ways."

Wright expressed optimism about the outcome of the ongoing tensions. “I think we’ll have a nice end of this conflict," he said.

He further noted that shipping activity could take some time to return to normal once the Strait of Hormuz reopens, though the delay may not be long. The strategic waterway remains a key point in the current negotiations.

The United States is preparing for another round of talks with Iran in Pakistan even as tensions remain high and uncertainty surrounds Tehran’s participation.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that American envoys would return to Pakistan for fresh negotiations. However, he also warned of possible military action if Iran does not agree to US terms.

“We’re offering a very fair and reasonable DEAL, and I hope they take it because, if they don’t, the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran," Trump posted on social media. “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!"

According to Trump, the delegation is expected to arrive on Monday evening, leaving limited time for progress before a two-week ceasefire expires.

Despite the announcement, there has been no official confirmation from Iran about attending the talks. Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that no decision has been made to send a delegation while a US blockade of Iranian ports remains in place.

A White House official said the US team will be led by Vice President JD Vance, who also headed the initial round of peace talks. The delegation will include envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Trump had earlier indicated in media interviews that Vance would not attend.

On the Iranian side, chief negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said there has been some progress in discussions, but key differences remain. These include disagreements over nuclear issues and the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which continues to be a major point of contention in the ongoing talks.
