And it was just as statesmanlike as you might expect if you are familiar with the president’s behavior.
After the former House speaker announced her departure on Thursday morning, Fox News correspondent Steve Doocy asked the president his thoughts on her leaving.
And, guess what! Trump didn’t hold back, based on what Doocy posted on social media.
Doocy reported that Trump told him, “The retirement of Nancy Pelosi is a great thing for America. She was evil, corrupt, and only focused on bad things for our country.”
Trump also claimed Pelosi “was rapidly losing control of her party and it was never coming back.”
The president then reportedly said that he was “very honored she impeached me twice and failed miserably twice,” before calling Pelosi “a highly overrated politician.”
Doocy later discussed Trump’s reaction on Fox News.

Typically, in instances where a politician is leaving office or has died colleagues on the other side will avoid rehashing disagreements and instead praise their former opponent.
And even Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) had nice things to say about Pelosi’s legacy to CNN, saying, the California Democrat “had an incredible career for her party,” and “I’m impressed at her ability to get things done.”
Other D.C. politicians also had reactions to Pelosi’s retirement.

— CSPAN (@cspan) November 6, 2025Like Trump, current House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) decided against the statesmanlike approach in his response to Pelosi’s retirement.
“The old guard has been repudiated, and the radicals are taking over the Democratic Party,” Johnson said Thursday.
“Even the famous San Francisco liberal is not far-left enough for the neo-Marxists, and we commend her for her service,” he added.
