US President Donald Trump has sharply criticised CNN over its reporting on Iran, alleging the network published a fabricated statement attributed to senior Iranian officials, as tensions remain high amid the fragile ceasefire developments.
In his latest post on Truth Social, Trump accused the broadcaster of knowingly circulating misinformation that could worsen an already sensitive geopolitical situation.
“No one can believe that Fake News CNN put out a knowingly false and dangerous statement pretending it came from the upper levels of the Iranian Government. It didn’t!"
“It was totally made up and posted, as a headline, for purpose of, perhaps, inflaming a very delicate situation. It was a new, trouble making site from Nigeria, and CNN just got caught cheating – A very dangerous thing to do!" (sic), Trump wrote.

Trump’s remarks marked his second post attacking the network over the issue.
He earlier posted that the alleged statement carried by CNN was fraudulent and linked to what he described as a fake news website originating in Nigeria.
He also said authorities were examining whether any crime had been committed in connection with the publication and called on the network to withdraw the report and issue an apology.

CNN DEFENDS ITS REPORTING
Meanwhile, CNN rejected the allegation and maintained that its report was based on credible sources.
“We received the statement from specific official Iranian spokespeople who are known to us," the network said in response.

The exchange highlights ongoing friction between Trump and the broadcaster, which has frequently faced criticism from the administration over its coverage of the Iran conflict.
ROW COMES AMID FRAGILE CEASEFIRE DIPLOMACY
The media dispute unfolded as diplomatic efforts continued following Trump’s announcement of a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran.
The ceasefire was agreed shortly before a deadline set by Trump for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route that handles roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil shipments.
Trump described the development as progress toward long-term peace and said the agreement could serve as the basis for further negotiations.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, however, portrayed the arrangement as a strategic success for Tehran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran would halt counterattacks and ensure safe passage through the strait if attacks against the country stop.
Despite the announcement, uncertainty remains over how quickly the ceasefire will take full effect, with missile alerts reported in parts of the region after the deal was revealed.
Analysts cited by Reuters said Trump’s decision to pause hostilities may reflect both geopolitical and domestic political considerations as the conflict enters its sixth week and continues to impact global energy markets.
