Security officials said the blast has isolated several forward military posts, forcing troops to rely on longer and more vulnerable alternative routes.

The Shewa Bridge served as the fastest connecting route between Shewa tehsil in North Waziristan and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a major setback to Pakistan’s counter-insurgency operations, militants of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) blew up the Shewa Bridge in North Waziristan, a key piece of infrastructure used by the Pakistan military for troop movement and logistics, CNN-News18 has learnt.
Top security sources said the bridge was a critical supply route for Pakistan’s security forces operating in the tribal districts along the Durand Line. Its destruction temporarily cut off a vital military supply chain, affecting troop movement, fuel convoys and ration supplies to forward-deployed units.
The Shewa Bridge served as the fastest connecting route between Shewa tehsil in North Waziristan and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, linking the region to Kurram, Hangu, Bannu, Karak and South Waziristan, while also providing access towards the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Security officials said the blast has isolated several forward military posts, forcing troops to rely on longer and more vulnerable alternative routes.
“This is a major milestone for TTP. The damage to the Shewa Bridge has disturbed military deployment and logistics in both North and South Waziristan," a senior security source told CNN-News18.
The attack is being seen as a sign of the operational revival of the TTP and its ability to target high-value military infrastructure. Sources said the group’s capability to strike strategic assets poses fresh challenges for Pakistan’s security establishment, which is already conducting near-daily operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Pakistan’s military is facing mounting pressure along the Durand Line, where tensions and militant activity have increased in recent months. The loss of the Shewa Bridge, sources said, will complicate ongoing operations and movement of forces in the region.
Security forces launched multiple operations following the blast and assessments are underway to restore connectivity. However, officials warned that the disruption caused by the bridge’s destruction could have a sustained impact on military operations in the Waziristan belt.
