For the first time in 60 years, Russia is experiencing the biggest snowfall in the Kamchatka Peninsula city, which has created vast drifts several metres tall, blocking building entrances and burying cars, Reuters reported.
In some areas, more than 2 m (6.5 feet deep) of snow has been recorded in the first half of January, following 3.7 m in December, the news agency said, citing weather monitoring stations.
Videos and photos circulating on social media narrate the gravity of the event, with several users defining it as “absolute chaos".

Two residents killed
In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, two residents were killed after snow fell from rooftops and trapped them, the Moscow Times reported, adding that mayor Yevgeny Belyayev declared a citywide state of emergency following the news of fatality.
Belyayev slammed property management companies for failing to clear rooftops immediately as he accused them of waiting for the snowstorm to pass.
