The United States has approved military sales worth over $8.6 billion to key Middle Eastern allies, including Israel, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, in a move that underscores Washington’s deepening strategic involvement in a volatile region.

The approvals, announced by the US State Department, come against the backdrop of heightened tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran and its regional adversaries, even as a fragile ceasefire has held for weeks.

According to Reuters, the package spans a range of advanced military systems and support services. Qatar will receive Patriot air and missile defence support valued at about $4 billion, along with precision-guided weapon systems, while Kuwait is set to acquire an integrated battle command system worth roughly $2.5 billion. Israel and the UAE are slated to receive Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems (APKWS), a type of guided rocket system used in modern warfare.
