The Department of State designated The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its alias, The Majeed Brigade, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

The Department of State designated The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its alias, The Majeed Brigade, as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) on Monday and added the Majeed Brigade as an alias to BLA’s previous Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) designation.

The BLA was designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) group in 2019 after carrying out multiple terrorist attacks. Since then, it has claimed responsibility for further assaults, including those by its Majeed Brigade. In 2024, the group claimed it conducted suicide bombings near Karachi Airport and the Gwadar Port Authority Complex. In 2025, the BLA said it was behind the March hijacking of the Jaffar Express train from Quetta to Peshawar, which left 31 civilians and security personnel dead and over 300 passengers taken hostage.

The Department of State’s action today underscores the Trump Administration’s commitment to countering terrorism. Terrorist designations play a critical role in our fight against this scourge and are an effective way to curtail support for terrorist activities.

Today’s actions are being carried out under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended, and Executive Order 13224, as amended. The FTO designations will take effect once they are published in the Federal Register.
