William Kimmitt, the US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, visited Bengaluru on Tuesday to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration and deepen technology ties between India and the United States.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday by the International Trade Administration (ITA), Kimmitt led a delegation of senior officials to Bengaluru as the first part of a broader India visit ahead of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.
Kimmitt and the delegation met several US and Indian technology firms and innovators to understand how they are investing in AI and integrating it into their business models. The delegation visited Chevron Engine, Google DeepMind, South Park Commons and Biocon.

“It is a privilege to visit the heart of tech innovation in Bangalore at such a critical juncture for the U.S.-India relationship," Kimmitt said.
He added that the new trade agreement between the two countries would “cement our bilateral relationship for decades to come" and promote the adoption of cutting-edge US technologies in India. He also welcomed India’s participation in the American AI Exports Program.

The discussion focused on defence cooperation in emerging technologies and ways to advance the new trade deal, promote US AI exports and strengthen industrial capacity for shared security goals.
Mukesh Aghi, President and CEO of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, said in a post on X that the meeting highlighted the importance of the Indo-Pacific, the Quad grouping and the role of emerging technologies in boosting commercial ties and regional security.

The ITA delegation also includes Deputy Under Secretary Brandon Remington, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia Pamela Phan and Chief of Staff Trevor Kellogg.
