Iran has reportedly struck a oil tanker in the Gulf which reportedly belonged to the United States, Euro News said. The strike was conducted through a missile which was fired on Thursday, March 5, in the latest Iranian attack on the region’s energy infrastructure.
There was no immediate confirmation of the incident or of a similar attack that Iran claimed earlier this week.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards said in a statement that the ship was hit by a missile "in the north of the Persian Gulf" and “is currently on fire”.
The Guards said in their Thursday statement carried by state media that, in time of war, passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be under the control of the Islamic Republic.
