US Understands It Cannot Achieve Anything Through Aggression: Iran FM Abbas Araghchi

Speaking on the sidelines of BRICS FMs Meet in India, Araghchi also suggested that Washington’s pressure tactics against Iran had failed to produce the desired outcome.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said the United States now understands that “they cannot achieve anything through aggression", even as he stressed that diplomacy remains the only solution to the ongoing tensions in West Asia. Speaking to Doordarshan News on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on Friday, Araghchi said, “They have come to the point and understand that they cannot achieve anything through aggression."

The Iranian minister said Tehran believes military confrontation cannot bring stability to the region. “For West Asia, it is best to go with diplomacy. There is no military solution," he said, while referring to the wider conflict and tensions that continue to grip the region.

Araghchi also suggested that Washington’s pressure tactics against Iran had failed to produce the desired outcome. “US should understand the point, they have tested us," he remarked, adding that Tehran continues to receive “contradictory messages" from the American side. “The main problem is the contradictory messages we get from the US," he said.

His comments come amid continuing geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia, where concerns over conflict escalation, maritime security and disruption to global energy supplies remain high. A key concern for the international community has been the security of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important oil shipping routes.

Addressing those concerns, Araghchi said Iran does not intend to block the passage for friendly nations. “As far as we are concerned, the Strait of Hormuz is not closed, especially for friendly countries. It is only closed for our enemies," he stated.

The minister further said that ships belonging to friendly countries would continue to enjoy safe movement through the waterway, provided there is coordination with Iranian authorities. “We only ask to coordinate with our military to avoid any obstacle in the way for safe passage," he added.

During the interaction, Araghchi also praised India’s leadership role within BRICS and welcomed the grouping’s stand on global conflicts. “I very much appreciate BRICS’ position on condemnation of aggression," he said, signalling Iran’s support for the bloc’s emphasis on diplomacy, multilateralism and regional stability.
