IRGC says it shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone over Bushehr Province during aerial clashes near the Strait of Hormuz, releasing footage of the interception.

Hours after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone over Bushehr province, video footage of the attack has emerged.

The IRGC air defence forces were able to successfully intercept and destroy a US MQ-9 drone in southern Iran during aerial confrontations in the Strait of Hormuz in the early hours of Wednesday.

The released footage showed the moment the US military drone was brought down.

According to Tasnim News Agency, the drone had reportedly approached the battle zone from the skies over the northern Persian Gulf with the intention of intervening in the confrontation.

Confirming the shooting down of the drone, IRGC issued a statement saying, “During the ongoing aerial clashes in the Strait of Hormuz, an MQ9 drone that intended to approach and intervene in the battle scene from the northern sky of the Persian Gulf was hit by the fire of the heroic fighters of the IRGC’s modern air defence in Jam County, Bushehr Province, and was destroyed."
