Former US President Barack Obama on Thursday sharply criticised Donald Trump’s move to overturn a key scientific finding that forms the basis of federal climate rules, warning it would put Americans at greater risk.

The endangerment finding, established during Obama’s presidency, concluded that greenhouse gas emissions pose a threat to public health and overall welfare because of their role in driving climate change.

“Without it, we’ll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change — all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money," the 44th US president wrote on social media platform X.
