American news anchor and television host Savannah Guthrie and her family have made a fresh plea to her 84-year-old mother’s suspected kidnappers, offering to pay a ransom for her safe return.

In a desperate video plea released on Saturday (February 7), Guthrie and her siblings addressed the suspects. “We received your message and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us and we will pay," Guthrie and her siblings said.

According to the events that unfolded over the past week, Nancy Guthrie was taken against her will from her home just outside Tucson, Arizona, in the United States last weekend. This is the third video plea released by the family this week as the search enters its seventh day.

Authorities said there were a series of ransom demands sent to various media outlets, including the Tucson-based television station KOLD. At least one of these messages established specific deadlines of Thursday evening (February 5) and the following Monday evening (February 9).

They said other communications contained specific details, such as references to Nancy’s Apple Watch and particular features of her property. The FBI and local law enforcement – Pima County Sheriff’s Department – issued a joint statement confirming they are “actively inspecting" the latest messages for authenticity, though they have yet to formally affirm their credibility.

WHAT IS THE CASE?

Investigators discovered physical evidence of a struggle, including blood on the front porch of the house that the sheriff’s department confirmed was a DNA match to Nancy.

They revealed that the home’s doorbell camera had been disconnected. Although software recorded movement at the property minutes later, the lack of an active subscription meant that no images of the intruders could be recovered, a development the county sheriff described as “disappointing".

The case has drawn significant attention from federal authorities, including US President Donald Trump, who has spoken publicly about the investigation on multiple occasions. Speaking from Air Force One, he said a resolution might be “coming out reasonably soon", noting that investigators have some “very strong" clues.

But as the search continues, there is growing anxiety regarding Nancy’s medical needs as a senior citizen. Authorities have highlighted that she requires vital daily medication for a heart condition and high blood pressure, and is fitted with a pacemaker.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos expressed grave concern that her condition may be “worsening day by day" in captivity. Despite ongoing searches and the recovery of DNA evidence, investigators have not yet identified any suspects or confirmed her current whereabouts.
