Days after the United States carried out a major operation on January 3 to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, fresh claims have emerged about the high-risk American operation in Venezuela. This includes allegations that a mysterious and highly advanced weapon was used which left the Venezuelan troops bleeding.
What do we know of the ‘mystery weapon’?
A Venezuelan guard quoted by the New York Post described a sudden and overwhelming assault during the operation. He said that Venezuelan radar and systems shut down without explanation before drones appeared overhead and helicopters inserted around 20 US troops.
The guard claimed that US forces used an unidentified weapon that felt like a “very intense sound wave". He said soldiers began bleeding from their noses, vomiting blood and collapsing, and that the troops appeared “technologically very advanced".
The account was shared on X by the White House press secretary, but US authorities have not confirmed or provided operational details. It is unclear whether any advanced or experimental US military technology was used during the raid.
Venezuela’s Interior Ministry has acknowledged that around 100 members of security forces were killed during the January 3 operation. It remains unknown if the alleged weapon contributed to these deaths.
What expert said about the weapon?
A former US intelligence source told the New York Post that the symptoms described by the guard could be consistent with directed-energy weapons, which use focused energy such as microwaves. Such systems exist but there has been no official verification of their use in this case.
For now, the claims remain unverified, and no independent evidence has been presented to confirm the use of the alleged weapon.
