Chennai Super Kings (CSK) youngster Urvil Patel was in stellar form during his team's IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Chennai on Sunday.

Urvil Patel slammed a half-century off just 13 deliveries, registering the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history.

He equalled the record of Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a 13-ball fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023.

Urvil Patel's tribute to his father

While celebrating his half-century, the 27-year-old displayed a note that paid tribute to his father.

"This is for you PAPA". Tamaru sapnu aaje puru thayu cricketer motu banine batavyu (Today your dream has come true; I have shown [everyone] by becoming a great cricketer)," reads the note.

Urvil's father, Mukesh Patel, is a physical training instructor at a high-school, and a former university-level sprinter. He played a crucial role in Urvil's cricketing career, often holding intense training sessions as early as 4 am to help develop Urvil's cricketing skills.

Urvil Patel walked out to bat at number three after Sanju Samson was dismissed for 28 runs in the fourth over of CSK's run chase. Urvil played an entertaining innings that consisted of two fours and eight sixes. He struck at a whopping rate of 282.61. For the second wicket, Urvil forged an 81-run stand from just 34 balls with Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Urvil, who made his IPL debut in 2025 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has played seven matches in the IPL and has scored 178 runs at a strike-rate of 225.32.

After being asked to bat first, Lucknow Super Giants posted 203/8 on the board on the back of a 33-ball 85 from Josh Inglis and an unbeaten 43 from Shahbaz Ahmed.

At the time of writing this report, Chennai Super Kings were 157/3 in the 15th over with Kartik Sharma (14*) batting with Dewald Brevis (6*).

CSK are in sixth place with 10 points from 10 matches, whereas LSG are in 10th place with six points from 10 matches.
