Conservative US political commentator Tucker Carlson sharply criticised President Donald Trump over his rhetoric on Iran, accusing him of mocking religion and escalating tensions through inflammatory language.
“Who do you think you are? You’re tweeting out the F-word on Easter morning? You’ll be living in hell. Just watch. Praise be to Allah," Carlson said while reacting to Trump’s social media posts.
In a video widely being shared on social media, Carlson argued that ridicule of religion by a political leader could provoke wider conflict and undermine the moral basis of US policy.
“So obviously you’re mocking the religion of Iran. Okay, if you seek a religious war, that’s a good idea. But by the way, no decent person mocks other people’s religions," he said.
He said disagreement with theology should not translate into mockery of faith itself.
“You may have a problem with the theology, presumably you do if it’s not your religion, and you can explain what that is. But to mock other people’s faith is to mock the idea of faith itself. And we should never mock that because at its core is the acknowledgement that we are not in charge of the universe," Carlson said.
Carlson also framed the issue as one affecting Christians as well.
“This is not just a mockery of Islam. It’s a mockery of Christianity. To send out a tweet with the F word on Easter morning, promising the murder of civilians and then saying praise be to Allah without explaining any of it, you are mocking me and every other Christian," he said.
“That is evil. That is an intentional desecration of beauty and truth, which is the definition of evil."
Carlson further argued that the United States should not position itself as a religious power.
“This is not a theocracy. We don’t go to war with other theocracies to find out which theocracy is more effective. We are not a theocracy. And God willing, we never will be because theocracies corrupt the religion," he said.
LAURA LOOMER ACCUSES CARLSON OF HYPOCRISY
Later, far-right commentator Laura Loomer responded with multiple posts on X criticising Carlson’s remarks and accusing him of hypocrisy.
“Tucker Qatarlson has a full-blown meltdown over President Trump ‘mocking Islam’. Tucker is basically a Muslim! When did he convert to Islam?" Loomer wrote.
“He’s acting like a woke leftist. He’s so far gone. Imagine simping for a paedophile death cult," she added.

Loomer also shared what she described as previously leaked audio of Carlson making derogatory remarks about Muslims and Iraqis, arguing his past statements contradicted his current criticism of Trump.
“Must listen audio: Tucker Qatarlson’s hypocrisy over mocking Islam exposed," Loomer posted.
In the audio clip shared by Loomer, Carlson could be heard saying, “Iraq is a crappy place filled with a bunch of, you know, semi-literate, primitive monkeys. I have zero sympathy for them or their culture, a culture where people just don’t use toilet paper or forks."
Carlson was also heard saying in the clip, “I don’t like Islamic extremists. If you are really heavily into Islam, I really, I’m sorry, I just don’t care for you that much."
“How about you stop being such a hypocrite and a liar before you open your trash mouth about President Trump? You are seriously the biggest conman in America," she wrote.
She also warned of possible political consequences for Carlson and his associates.
Loomer intensified her criticism of Carlson in subsequent posts.
“Tucker and everyone who still hangs out with him are so f****d. They have no idea what’s coming their way politically. They have really messed with some of the wrong people," Loomer said in another post.

In a separate post, she added: “I think Tucker and his business partners are really going to end up regretting their behavior long term."

TRUMP’S POSTS ON IRAN SPARK CONTROVERSY
The criticism from Carlson came after Trump issued a series of posts threatening Iran if it failed to comply with US demands related to the Strait of Hormuz.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fin’ Strait, you crazy ba**s, or you’ll be living in Hell," Trump wrote on Truth Social, later specifying an 8 p.m. deadline.

Trump later suggested the deadline would be final after previous extensions.
“The entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night," Trump said. “We have a plan, because of the power of our military, where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night."
DEADLINES SHIFT AS DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS CONTINUE
According to the Associated Press, Trump has repeatedly delayed deadlines tied to demands that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while alternating between threats of military action and statements suggesting negotiations were progressing.
Trump initially warned on March 21 that Iran must “FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz" within 48 hours or face attacks on power plants.
He later postponed planned strikes, saying he had instructed the Department of War to delay action for five days while discussions continued.
On March 26, Trump again threatened action, warning there would be “NO TURNING BACK" if a deal was not reached, before extending the deadline further to April 6.
Iran rejected the latest ceasefire proposal, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.
Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour, head of Iran’s diplomatic mission in Cairo, told the Associated Press that Iran no longer trusts the Trump administration following previous attacks during negotiations.
“We only accept an end of the war with guarantees that we won’t be attacked again," he said.
A regional official involved in talks told AP that diplomatic efforts had not collapsed, saying discussions were continuing behind closed doors.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that attacks on civilian infrastructure are prohibited under international law, according to his spokesperson.
Trump said he is “not at all" concerned about committing war crimes in pursuing strikes.
