Marius Borg Hoiby, the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, is under investigation for 23 criminal offences, including three counts of rape. Oslo police announced the charges following a nearly 10-month investigation that began with his arrest in August 2024.

Who Is Marius Borg Hoiby?

Born in 1997, Marius Borg Hoiby is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and her former partner. Although raised within the royal household alongside his half-siblings- Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus- Marius Borg Hoiby holds no royal title and is not in line to the Norwegian throne. He previously lived near the Crown Prince’s family on the Skaugum estate in Asker but after the initial allegations surfaced, he was reportedly moved to a nearby house.

What Are The Charges Against Marius Borg Hoiby?

The charges against Marius Borg Hoiby include three counts of rape, several incidents of domestic violence, criminal damage, violating a restraining order and threatening behaviour. According to police, the rape charges involve victims who were “unconscious or otherwise unable to resist." Norwegian media reported that at least five women are involved, including former partners Julianne Snekkestad and reality TV star Nora Haukland. Marius Borg Hoiby has denied the rape allegations.

Marius Borg Hoiby’s arrest followed an alleged physical assault at a woman’s apartment in Oslo. Authorities found a knife embedded in the wall of the bedroom, according to local reports. In another incident, he was reportedly arrested inside a car with a woman who later became one of the complainants.

Police have also accused Marius Borg Hoiby of threatening a man and driving without a valid license. His home near the royal estate has been searched as part of the investigation.

What Has Norway Royal Family Said On The Allegations?

The Norwegian royal family has not issued any public comment. The palace has remained silent since Marius Borg Hoiby’s arrest last year.
