US President Donald Trump on Saturday said the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner would not deter him from the ongoing Iran conflict, asserting that it would not impact his efforts to “win the war in Iran."

Speaking to reporters at the White House after the security scare, Trump said, “It’s not going to deter me from winning the war in Iran. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, I really don’t think so, based on what we know."

However, the US President added a note of caution, saying “you never know" whether the attack could be linked to the conflict, even as he indicated that investigators were examining the motive of the suspect.

Trump described the attacker as a “lone wolf," suggesting that authorities do not currently believe there was a broader coordinated plot behind the incident.

The US President has shared a video of the suspect behind a shooting incident at a media gala in Washington. The 24-second clip, posted on Truth Social, shows the suspect charging towards the venue of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The video further shows Secret Service agents taking positions and pointing their guns at the suspect.

Trump earlier Saturday canceled his envoys’ trip to Pakistan for peace talks with Iran, after being unimpressed with Tehran’s negotiating position following nearly two months of war. He further clarified that the move does not signal an immediate return to conflict between the United States and the Islamic republic.

The decision followed closely after Abbas Araghchi wrapped up his visit to Islamabad, where he held talks with Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, all key figures involved in ongoing efforts to mediate between the two sides.
