US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that he had directed all federal departments to discontinue their use of Anthropic’s technology, citing the company’s visible clash with the Pentagon over artificial intelligence (AI) safety standards.
Trump’s remarks came just over an hour before the Pentagon’s deadline requiring Anthropic to permit unrestricted military application of its AI systems or face potential repercussions. His remarks also followed comments made nearly a day earlier by CEO Dario Amodei, who stated that the company “cannot in good conscience accede" to the Pentagon’s requirements.
Trump indicated that while most federal agencies must halt their use of Anthropic’s AI immediately, the Pentagon would be granted a six-month window to remove the technology already integrated into military systems.
“We don’t need it, we don’t want it, and will not do business with them again!" Trump stated, AP reported.
