Democratic Rep Al Green was escorted from the House chamber after displaying a sign protesting a racist video of the Obamas posted on Donald Trump’s Truth Social.

US President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address began amid disruption as Democratic Rep Al Green was escorted from the House chamber after holding up a sign that read, “Black people aren’t apes!"

He was referring to a racist video of the Obamas posted on Trump’s social media account. The footage — posted and later deleted on Trump’s official Truth Social handle — featured former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as monkeys, sparking outrage across the US political spectrum.

Later, the White House took down the video. Clarifying his take on the same, Trump said a staffer had posted it.

Green, a veteran Congressman from Texas, waved the protest sign as Trump arrived to address the joint session of Congress.

As the US President walked down the aisle, Green tried to wave the sign towards him. However, Republican House Majority Leader Steve Scalise stopped the act.

Green continued to display the sign as Trump began his State of the Union address. Moments later, a staff member escorted him from the chamber.

‘WANTED PRESIDENT TO SEE IT’

Following his removal from the House chamber, Green told CNN, “I wanted the president to see it and he saw it. I told him Black people are not apes."
