Leading with a sharp rebuke of the government’s handling of her brother’s health, Aleema Khan on Monday categorically rejected any medical examination or treatment of former prime minister Imran Khan in the absence of his family and personal doctors.

“It is extremely concerning and unacceptable that the government is resisting the presence of Imran Khan’s personal doctor and family representative during his examination and treatment," Aleema said in a statement. She added that without the physical presence of both his personal physician, Dr Asim Yusuf, and family representative Dr Nausherwan Burki, the family would “categorically reject any claims made by the government regarding his examination, treatment, or medical condition".

Aleema also lashed out at what she termed a “planted report" carried by Dawn, allegedly based on a fake social media account falsely attributed to Noreen Niazi. Calling it “deeply shocking and irresponsible", she said the publication of the report without verification had further eroded the family’s trust in the government’s intentions and the information being circulated about Khan’s health.

Reiterating the family’s position, she demanded that Khan be urgently shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for proper examination and treatment. She said the family’s personal doctors had already provided the government with several acceptable specialist options. While the family had earlier nominated Dr Uzma Khan to represent them, they were informed that none of Khan’s sisters would be allowed to be present. “We have complete faith and trust in Dr Nausherwan Burki, who is like an elder brother to us, to represent our family," she said.

Meanwhile, developments unfolded at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, where medical reports related to Khan were submitted in the chamber of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi. According to top sources, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan met the Chief Justice and presented the medical findings.

Sources said the reports indicated that Khan’s vital signs were within normal range for his age. Ophthalmological tests reportedly showed that one eye has 6/6 vision, while the other is functioning between 67 per cent and 72 per cent, and requires proper treatment and care. The Attorney General is understood to have briefed the Chief Justice accordingly.

The submission follows the Supreme Court’s February 12 verdict directing that Khan be provided medical treatment and access, with a friend of the court also submitting a report. According to sources, the apex court may issue a further order after reviewing the health reports placed on record by the Attorney General.

The matter has intensified scrutiny over both the former prime minister’s health and the government’s handling of his medical care, even as his family maintains that any examination conducted without their nominated doctors present will not be accepted.
