Born into a Tamil family in Kerala, Nithya Raman has emerged as a prominent contender in the Los Angeles mayoral race. While incumbent mayor Karen Bass still holds an edge, recent projections suggest a shift in momentum.
The 44-year-old city councilmember — who represents Los Angeles’s Fourth District — ventured into the race late, setting the stage for a direct competition with Karen Bass.
The nonpartisan primary will be held on June 2, with projections pointing to a powerful lead held by Nithya Raman. As of of April 30, Polymarket has suggested there is 60 per cent chance for the Indian-origin candidate to lead Los Angeles.
