Billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates is set to testify on June 10 before a congressional committee conducting a probe into the trafficking network of late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, a source familiar with the matter told AFP.
Bill, the Microsoft co-founder, is among the prominent figures appearing in documents released by the U.S. Justice Department that disclosed Epstein’s network and illicit financial dealings.
The source said Gates would sit for a “transcribed interview". Gates “welcomes the opportunity to appear before the Committee," a spokesperson for Bill Gates wrote in an email to AFP.
“While he never witnessed or participated in any of Epstein’s illegal conduct, he is looking forward to answering all the committee’s questions to support their important work", the statement added.
Gates Admitted Making A ‘Huge Mistake’
Previously, Bill Gates admitted to making a “huge mistake" in associating with Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in 2019.
However, he denied any involvement in the disgraced financier’s crimes.
In a draft email among the documents released by the Justice Department, Epstein claimed Gates had engaged in extramarital affairs, saying his association with the billionaire ranged from “helping Bill to get drugs, in order to deal with consequences of sex with Russian girls, to facilitating his illicit trysts, with married women."
At a town hall, Gates had admitted to having had two affairs. “I did have affairs, one with a Russian bridge player who met me at bridge events, and one with a Russian nuclear physicist who I met through business activities," he had said.
However, he had denied any engagements in illicit activities linked to Epstein. “I did nothing illicit. I saw nothing illicit," Gates said.
