A 26-year-old German doctor traveled to a small village in Pakistan’s Mandi Bahauddin district to marry a local man she met while playing the online game Roblox- a cross-cultural love story that has since captivated the internet. Selma, who holds dual German and Bosnian citizenship, tied the knot with 22-year-old Muhammad Akmal after months of digital connection that blossomed unexpectedly on the gaming platform. What began as chance encounters in a virtual world evolved into a bond strong enough to bridge continents, cultures and languages.

From Roblox to Real-Life Vows

Muhammad Akmal, a resident of the village of Difaar, recounted how their paths first crossed in the most modern of meeting places: a Roblox game. What started as casual gameplay soon gave way to regular messaging and over nearly five months, a friendship deepened into something neither had anticipated.

In an interview with My News TV, Muhammad Akmal revealed that he proposed to Selma early in their conversations. After a brief pause, she made the momentous decision to travel to Pakistan to turn their digital romance into a tangible reality.

During the same interview, Selma shared a detail both poignant and charming: in the early days, communication was tentative at best. Muhammad Akmal, who did not speak English fluently, would often reply with just one word- “okay"- to most of her messages. Yet despite the language barrier or perhaps because of the patience it required, their emotional connection only grew stronger.

“I knew it was real," Selma said, adding, “Sometimes you don’t need many words to feel understood."

Adjusting to A New Rhythm of Life

Arriving in rural Pakistan marked the beginning of a new chapter for Selma, one filled with unfamiliar rhythms and routines. Village life, with its simplicity and demands, was a world apart from what she had known. Washing clothes and utensils by hand, making rotis from scratch- these were tasks entirely foreign to her.

Yet Selma spoke of the adjustment not with regret, but with grace. She said she gradually embraced these new experiences, finding joy in the ordinary and meaning in the effort.

“It’s different, yes," she acknowledged, adding, “But I’m happy to be with him. That’s what matters."

To better weave herself into the fabric of her new community, Selma has begun learning Punjabi and Urdu, determined to communicate more easily with Muhammad Akmal’s family and neighbors.

The couple’s marriage was conducted with the full approval and warm support of both families- a union celebrated not just by the couple but by those who raised them. The wedding, including Selma’s travel expenses and the ceremony itself, cost around PKR 4.5 million, approximately $13,500.

Muhammad Akmal spoke with quiet pride about their life together, describing a relationship built on mutual respect, affection and the courage to choose love over convention. Selma has expressed her intention to settle in Pakistan, committing not just to a partner but to a place and a way of life.
