Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has voiced his country’s strong support for India’s strategic positioning in light of the tariff tussle with United States President Donald Trump, stating there is a “basic understanding in Washington DC that India is a solid partner".
Netanyahu emphasised India’s prominence, calling it a country that “stands out in Asia". He further characterised the relationship between India and the US as that of “two terrific friends with so much common ground", expressing confidence that they “should be able to find a solution" to any current disagreements.
The PM also underscored Israel’s close defence ties with India, specifically referencing the successful performance of Israeli equipment during Operation Sindoor. Israeli equipment was “battle-proven" during the operation and “worked well", providing tangible evidence of the efficacy and reliability of Israel’s defence exports, said Netanyahu.
India deployed Israeli-made loitering munitions, such as the Harpy and SkyStriker, to great effect in the operation that followed the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. These “suicide drones" were used to home in on and neutralise Pakistan’s air defence systems, including high-end surveillance radars supplied by the US and Chinese HQ-9 surface-to-air missile sites.
The successful deployment of this advanced weaponry during a high-stakes operation serves to solidify Israel’s reputation as a trusted and vital defence partner for India. This cooperation, which has been steadily growing, is a key component of the trilateral relationship between the three nations, reinforcing shared security interests and strategic objectives in a complex geopolitical landscape.
