The Jordanian military confirmed that it intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles on Friday, as Iran launched a wave of retaliatory strikes following a large-scale joint US-Israeli military operation targeting Iranian weapons sites and leadership.
One of the intercepted missiles did not fully clear Jordanian airspace and came down on a residential home in the Marj Al Hamam district of Amman, the capital.
Video footage acquired by CNN-News18 shows flames and heavy smoke rising from the wreckage of the structure. Casualty details have not been confirmed at this time.
Jordan has a standing policy of shooting down any foreign munitions that cross its airspace, regardless of where they are headed. The kingdom sits between Israel and Iran, making it a frequent transit path for ballistic missiles and drones during regional flare-ups.
The incident comes as Iran fired dozens of ballistic missiles toward Israel and US military targets across the region in response to the strikes that began early Friday morning. The broader conflict continues to develop.
