Iran on Monday said that no date, time, or location has been set for the next round of nuclear talks with the United States. The negotiations were disrupted by a recent war between Iran and Israel.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, responding to a question about a possible meeting between Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Abbas Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff, said no details had been finalised.

“For now, no specific date, time or location has been determined regarding this matter," Baqaei said.

Araghchi and Witkoff had held five rounds of talks since April, in what was the highest-level contact between the two countries since the US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018. However, the talks have yet to produce any agreement.

The talks, which were being mediated by Oman, came to a halt after Israel carried out surprise strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities on 13 June. This triggered a 12-day war, during which the United States also joined the conflict with its own military actions.

“We have been serious in diplomacy and the negotiation process, we entered with good faith," said Baqaei. “But as everyone witnessed, before the sixth round the Zionist regime, in coordination with the United States, committed military aggression against Iran."

Israel and several Western nations have long accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Iran denies these claims and insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes. The UN’s nuclear watchdog has said it has found no evidence that Iran is attempting to build a nuclear weapon, although Iran is enriching uranium to 60% purity, close to weapons-grade level.

Last month’s Israeli attacks killed nuclear scientists and military officials and targeted several key nuclear and military sites. On 22 June, the United States launched its own strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz.

The full extent of the damage remains unclear. Baqaei said investigations were still ongoing. In response, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Israel and struck a US base in Qatar.
