‘People Were All Over Road’: Eyewitnesses Recount Horror As Car Ploughs Into Pedestrians In Derby

The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested and taken into custody.

“A number of people were injured, some of them seriously, and were treated at the scene by ambulance crews before being taken to the hospital. Police officers stopped a vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident shortly after it happened. Eyewitnesses Recount Horror

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses described the scenes as “absolute carnage" as injured people lay on the road.

One of the eyewitnesses quoted by the Derby Telegraph said the scene was “horrible," with people lying on the ground and injured, while another called it “sickening".

“It was utterly horrific. People were lying on the pavement covered in blood and on the road," he said.

Another person said they were nearby when it happened and heard people screaming. They saw several injured people being treated on the street and said it was shocking and hard to understand.

“We were walking down the street when it happened. There was screaming and yelling. It was horrendous. It’s sickening. People were being treated all over the pavement and the road. God knows how that has happened," the eyewitness was quoted as saying.

One local said he had just missed being at the spot by a few minutes and felt lucky to be safe.

“It was such a frightening experience. We must have (just) missed it," the person told Derby Telegraph.

Another person who was at a nearby bar said everyone was deeply shaken. Some people were crying, and many could not believe such an incident had happened.
